FUNCINES - Funds to Finance the National Film Industry

FUNCINE, a capital market instrument created by Provisional Measure 2.228-1 and Law nº 11.437, 28.12.06, aims to foster and develop projects for appreciating the importance and value of art, education and culture in Brazil, while also enabling companies taxed under the Real Profit regime to allocate up to 3% of the Income Tax due as investment. This benefit also applies to individual investors, who can allocate up to 6% of the Income Tax due as investment.

As well as the aforementioned benefit, the fund’s shareholders may:

  • Recover the value invested, at the end of the duration of the Fund, with the possibility of obtaining a return over the amount invested
  • Benefit from marketing and merchandising created for the promotion of sponsored projects

Other advantages of the Funcine funds are: dilution of the investment risk, due to fund’s investment in a diversified portfolio of projects; investment transparency, as Funcine is regulated by the CVM (Brazilian SEC); accounting facility; and the fund manager’s experience in negotiating with film producers.
